The Mexican singer launches together with rapper Farina and her fellow Mexican Sofía Reyes the Facebook Watch docuseries Latin Music Queens
The actress and singer Thalía manages to combine unpublished music with her intimate experiences and sisterhood in a new project through the window of Facebook Watch, a global destination for videos on the Facebook social network.
The businesswoman and influencer is also the star and executive producer of the series Latin Music Queens, where the singer of hits such as No Me Acuerdo, Desde Esa Noche and Piel Morena shares the cameras with the rapper and singer Colombian Farina and the young Mexican pop singer Sofía Reyes. Together with them, Thalía show the creative concept of making a collaboration that ends up becoming a song that will surely reach the peak of popularity.
"For me it was important to establish that dialogue with the public. I had this idea a couple of years ago where, in my heart and in my mind, I wanted people to see what is behind the process of the music of their artist, of the video of their artist," said the Mexican star in a meeting via Zoom with the Los Angeles Times in Spanish.
She documented that idea that the Mexican artist was developing in a letter to share it, but as soon as Facebook saw it, they said "I want this now for Facebook Watch".
Thalía says that from that moment on, the project came to life. "At that time I was with Farina recording a song and a video and I told her about all this that was happening and she said 'I'll get involved' (because) she loved the concept, the idea and everything. And in turn, she was recording another video with Sofía Reyes, and when she arrives with the cameras and documenting everything, Sofía asks her: 'What's wrong with you? What's going on here?'. Farina told her and Sofía says 'I want to too'." And that's how all this happens", Thalía revealed with full of emotion.
The series that will consist of six episodes and that will be transmitted every Thursday at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT on the Facebook platform shows the three artists sharing the creative process of their new song and in each episode, expectations will rise for the premiere of their music video that will be revealed in the grand finale on October 29.
"It is the preparation of a song that started from scratch and people (who see it) are going to be part of this process. And they will see us in the highs in the lows, as artists, as women, as people, laughing, crying and singing. It is an open book", said the artist from her home in New York.
These three representatives of Latin music share not only with each other, but also with representatives of the record label, who are the ones who take charge of the technical part and part of the production, so we see Isabel de Jesús in the first instance giving directions during pre-production. "It's interesting because people observe the process of when they find a song that may come from someone from your record company or from a composer from a friend of yours, from another singer-songwriter, or it may be from the person you are going to sing with, you don't know where the 'track' is going to come from, but when it arrives it causes an effect that you cannot contain in the body and when that happens, you say this is mine and I have to share it with people", she said with emotion.
Precisely something like this occurs during the recordings of this docuseries when the meeting between Farina and Thalía is observed in the recording studio after a long journey that the young Colombian faces towards New York to meet the star of music and telenovelas.
In this docuseries, both of them and also Sofía Reyes combine their creativity and their various experiences, not only to give the audience a look at their lives behind the scenes, but also to create new music that ends up highlighting the talents that each one has at the same time for the creative process.
Precisely, with Sofía Reyes, her fellow Mexican, Thalía says that she had not had the opportunity to do something, although she had been observing her style for a long time. "I have always been a great admirer of talents like Sofía's, who is a very internal talent and very hers and I love being able to get to know her more. As a person we have had more of a very spiritual, internal connection, very different from how I imagined a song would be, but I felt that it was something like "I want to always take care of her". And with 'Fari' I have that other energy," she said.
In other words, with Sofía she feels more maternal and with Farina it seems that she shares a sisterhood in which together they plan costumes and scenery. "And we are both very passionate," she adds.
For Thalía this docuseries will be very interesting because you can see how three women in the music industry come together to achieve their mission. "It is something that has not been seen before as exhibited on a platform like this," she says.
In this project, Tommy Mottola, her husband, is the executive producer. "Tommy made sure everything moved and the structure got going and the connections went through. It is that great team that he and I form, but at the same time we all bring the structure, including Farina, Sofía and the Facebook team", she explained.
Thalía has just released the song La Luz together with the urban artist Myke Towers and a second children's album Viva Kids Vol. 2, in addition to having published the vinyl version of Primera Fila, in Mexico, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of this iconic album. All this is part of the disturbing task that Thalía undergoes as a singer, as a businesswoman, influencer and others, because we no longer know what else to add to her artistic curriculum.
"There is always something to invent, to create," she says with a smile. And that is true, because "as long as the heart beats and dreams have that light, one can create, one can continue, prevail and invent oneself," adds the Latin Grammy winner and host of the last Premio Lo Nuestro.
Latin Music Queens is a docuseries produced by The Mottola Company Inc., eOne and Sony Music Latin, where Thalía and Tommy Mottola share the executive production role with Afo Verde, Alex Gallardo, Tara Long, Mark Herwick and Melissa Bidwell. "In this Latin Music Queens, I don't know if they want to call it a documentary, I don't know if they want to call it a reality show, I call it a documentary show and I imagine that here people are going to connect with the human side of each artist," she explains.
Farina, who at the end of July released her single A Fuego, whose official video has more than 12 million views, joins the project from her native Colombia with full of energy, while Sofía Reyes, who recently released Échalo Pa 'Ca and she is also the Mexican female soloist with the most' streams' on Spotify, surpassing 10 million monthly listeners, is the other link in a chain that together with Thalía will seek to surprise the fans of each one.
"And that is what is incredible because there are three completely different universes that crossed and it will be very funny because both the fans of one, the other and the other, plus the public that receives us with this will be very interesting to hear their comments," she said with a smile.
Latin Music Queens” premieres today, September 24 at 9 p.m. ET 6 p.m. PT by Facebook Watch. (Note, the said date have have and the video is not posted)
For the love of Mexico
Throughout her career, Thalía has performed countless genres and has made collaborations that range from the band, to bachata, bolero, reggaetón and other aspects of the urban genre. However, today when regional Mexican music is taking a new breath with the arrival of young exponents such as Christian Nodal, Álex Fernandez, Joss Favela, Ángela Aguilar and others, Thalía does not rule out the possibility of collaborating with some of them when the opportunity arises.
"I love to venture into all genres, in my music I have never stopped performing, since my first bolero records or my famous Amor a la Mexicana and my album in banda style with my greatest hits, so the moment this opportunity is given, it will happen and sparks will come out, because our music has never left and has always been present and current and more so this month," she said in reference to Hispanic Heritage Month.
"Because there is much to celebrate," added the actress, who can't wait for the opportunity to act again and who knows, there could even be a bioseries.
"I love it, I like to get into someone else's shoes and do crazy things, I love that. I do want to go back, but it should definitely be a project that will get butterflies out of my stomach and for me to say: 'I have to do it right now, I want to leave everything and do this. To date, this project has not yet reached me, but we continue reading, we continue to receive it and I will surprise you at any moment," she said.
